Cboe™ Launches Mini-Russell 2000 Index Options
Cboe kicked off March with the launch of Mini-Russell 2000 Index options (ticker: MRUT), which are designed to track the underlying Russell 2000 Index and are 1/10th the size of the standard Russell 2000 Index options contract. The smaller-sized contract provides greater flexibility and precision for small cap U.S. equity trading strategies, and for new index options traders or traders managing an individual portfolio. Cboe Global Markets™ Reports February 2021 Trading Volume
Cboe reported February 2021 trading volume on March 3. In February, average daily volume (ADV) increased on all four of Cboe’s options exchanges, including a new monthly ADV record of 1.59 million contracts traded on Cboe EDGX™ Options Exchange. Additionally, Cboe EDGX Equities Exchange set a new monthly record of 24.10 billion shares traded, surpassing the previous record of 22.96 billion shares traded in January 2021.
Cboe Global Markets Announces Date of First-Quarter 2021 Earnings Release and Conference Call
Cboe will announce its financial results for the first quarter of 2021 before the market opens on Friday, April 30, 2021. A conference call with remarks by the company's senior management will begin at 7:30 a.m. Central Time (CT), 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time (ET).
Cboe Promotes Catherine Clay to Executive Vice President, Will Lead Newly Created Data and Access Solutions Division
On March 23, Cboe announced the creation of a new division, Data and Access Solutions, and the promotion of Catherine Clay to Executive Vice President, Data and Access Solutions. With Clay at the helm, the Data and Access Solutions division will combine Cboe’s Information Solutions and Market Data and Access Services teams into one group to create an optimized and holistic global offering. Cboe’s market data and access services -- real-time, historical and derived data sets, along with equities, options, futures and FX data and market access -- combined with its market analytics, global indices and trade and risk management offering, are planned to be made available through this new division, providing the company’s global client base with more efficient and streamlined access to Cboe’s full suite of data services and trading resources.
Cboe Global Markets Agrees to Acquire Chi-X Asia Pacific, Expanding Global Footprint into Australia and Japan
On March 24, Cboe announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Chi-X Asia Pacific, an alternative market operator and provider of innovative market solutions, from J.C. Flowers & Co. LLC. This acquisition will provide Cboe with a single point of entry into two key capital markets – Australia and Japan – to help enable it to expand its global equities business into Asia Pacific, bring other products and services to the region, and further expand access to its unique proprietary product suite in the region. The transaction is expected to close in the second or third quarter of 2021, subject to regulatory review and other customary closing conditions.
Bryan Harkins Is Appointed President of BIDS Trading, Tim Mahoney Announces Planned Retirement
On March 24, Cboe announced the planned retirement of Tim Mahoney, President of BIDS Trading and shared that Bryan Harkins was appointed his successor, assuming the role of President of BIDS Trading, effective immediately. In this role, Harkins is charged with growing the BIDs offering into new asset classes and global geographies.
Cboe Receives Regulatory Approval to Launch Periodic Auctions for U.S. Equities Trading
Cboe recently received approval from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to introduce periodic auctions on Cboe BYX™ Equities Exchange – bringing to the U.S. equities markets a new, innovative intraday auction mechanism based on a reimagining of a process that it first launched in Europe. Cboe expects to launch U.S. periodic auctions in the third quarter of 2021.
