BATS Chi-X Europe: Upcoming Changes and Additions to Trading Functionality

December 19, 2012 13:47:15

Dear BATS Chi-X Europe Participants,

Details of upcoming changes and additions to BATS Chi-X Europe order and trade entry functionality are outlined below:

BATS Dark Self Cross (BDSX)
Effective Wednesday 2nd January 2013, BATS Chi-X Europe will decommission this order type [FIX tag 9303=BX or BOE RoutingInst=BX]. Any Participants still submitting BDSX orders will receive a rejection message from this date.

BATS Trade Capture Report (TCR)
Effective Wednesday 2nd January 2013, BATS Chi-X Europe will introduce a new TCR trade type. TCR trades can be used by Participants to report and bring "On-exchange" trades where the Participant has agreed a transaction away from the BATS Chi-X Europe markets, but the Participant would like to report the trade as a Negotiated Trade on either the BXE or CXE order books. TCR trades are subject to the BATS Chi-X Europe rules and will allow Participants to either use their existing post-trade arrangements, or alternatively suppress these trades from clearing and settlement on a trade by trade basis.

How TCR Trades work

* A Participant matches a trade off-exchange

* The Participant submits a TCR to BATS Chi-X Europe, either in real-time or as part of an EOD netted position

* The TCR is a single FIX or BOE message consisting of both the buy and sell instruction and can be entered between 0800 and 1640 (UK time)

* The trade is reported* on the CXE or BXE trade feed as a Negotiated Trade (NT) and is cleared through the Participant's chosen CCP, or suppressed from clearing at the Participant's request

* The CCP nets TCR trade executions together with other trades from BATS Chi-X Europe and from other venues for one net settlement

*Net TCR trades reported to BATS Chi-X Europe should be flagged as previously reported to avoid duplicate trade reporting.

Interbook Order Types
Further to the Lit Sweep and Dark Sweep order types introduced on Monday 12th November 2012, BATS Chi-X Europe will introduce an additional interbook order type, Sequential Lit Sweep, effective Friday 21st December 2012.

How Sequential Lit Sweep works

* Participants submit an order, using the Sequential Lit Sweep order type, via a FIX or BOE port to either the BXE or CXE order book

* Sequential Lit Sweep orders are sent to the lit book of entry, where they will execute up to their limit price (irrespective of the price on the other lit order book). Any un-executed portion of the order is then sent to the other lit order book where it will continue to execute up to the Participant's designated limit price.

* Any residual volume posts back on the book of entry, or can be cancelled back to the Participant by use of the IOC flag

Pricing

* Trading fees are based on the order book where each execution takes place. The Pricing Schedule is available at the following link: http://cdn.batstrading.com/resources/participant_resources/BATSEuro_Pricing.pdf

Clearing

* All trades are cleared and settled in line with the Trading Participant's existing post-trade arrangements. Trading Participants should note that (where appropriate*) the market of settlement will be the market (order book) of entry whilst the market of execution will be identified in the ContraBroker field (FIX tag 375). Trades resulting from the Sweep order types will be included in the Trading Participant's End of Day (EOD) trade data file for the order book of entry.

*Where participants choose to net across multiple market centres there is no market associated to the settlement.

Technical Implementation

* Participants can specify Sequential Lit Sweep orders on an order by order basis by using the following values in the RoutingInst field (FIX tag 9303):

Lit Sweep: 9303=X

Testing
* The new TCR and Sequential Lit Sweep order are available for testing in the BATS Chi-X Europe Certification environments with immediate effect
* Participants not currently using the TCR and Sweep orders are required to pass a certification test before enablement in Production. Please contact the
Trade Desk to schedule your formal certification test.

BATS Chi-X Europe: New flag for hidden portion of iceberg order executions on FIX and BOE

December 07, 2012 15:27:50

Dear BATS Chi-X Europe Participants,

Users of iceberg orders are advised that from Wednesday 2nd January 2013, the TradeLiquidityIndicator field [FIX tag 9730] returned on execution reports from the BXE and CXE order books will include a new value of AK. This value indicates "Added Liquidity from the hidden (reserve) portion of an iceberg order", and was previously indicated by a single value of A. For Binary Order Entry (BOE) sessions, a SubLiquidityIndicator field value of K will now be present.

This change impacts iceberg orders on order entry sessions only, all other order types are unaffected. There are also no changes to BATS Chi-X Europe market data. Please refer to the FIX and/or BOE specifications for further information.

The change is available for testing in the Certification (UAT) environment from Tuesday 11th December 2012, and will take effect in Production on Wednesday 2nd January 2013.

Participants should be aware that BATS Chi-X Europe will make additions to the 2nd character of the TradeLiquidityIndicator field from time to time. To allow for future expansion in this field, Participants are advised to ignore unrecognised values in the 2nd character of the TradeLiquidityIndicator field.

Please contact the Trade Desk or your Account Manager if you have any questions.

December 04, 2012 12:30:48

Dear BATS Chi-X Europe Participants,

Overview
Effective immediately, BATS Chi-X Europe is pleased to announce the availability of its Risk Management Port Controls at no charge to all Trading Participants. These new tools give Participants the ability to make real-time changes to a number of port-level risk attributes through the BATS Chi-X Europe Participant web portal. A Participant can apply risk controls on orders belonging to their firm as a whole, or to different trading groups within the firm.

Service Description
The BATS Chi-X Europe Risk Management Port Controls provide the following risk attributes to Participants*:

* Cancel all open orders, cancel all open orders AND block new orders (i.e Participant controlled "kill switch")

* Max notional per order per market

* Max number of shares per order

* Max number of orders per second per port

* Max number of orders per symbol per second per port

* Primary market segment restriction

* Restricted instrument list

* Daily max notional (executed + exposure) per port

* Price threshold order collar

* DROP port monitoring

*Existing risk attribute settings configured by the Trade Desk upon emailed request from the Trading Participant are considered separate from the settings configurable via the Web Portal Port Controls. Where both sets of controls are in place, the setting that is regarded as most risk averse will be applied.

Further detail can be found in the BATS Chi-X Europe Risk Management Specification.

Automation
BATS Chi-X Europe supports automation of the Risk Management Port Controls through the BATS Chi-X Europe Secure Web API. The BATS Chi-X Europe Secure Web API allows client applications to view and update these risk attributes using the HTTPS protocol over the internet. For more details see the BATS Chi-X Europe Secure Web API Specification.

Availability
Only authorised individuals at a firm may have access to the Web Portal Port Controls. Authorised individuals will only have access to controls associated with their firm as a whole, or to different trading groups within the firm. Please contact your Account Manager if you require access.

BATS Chi-X Europe: New Interbook Order Types

November 01, 2012 09:15:02

Dear BATS Chi-X Europe Participants,

BATS Chi-X Europe is pleased to announce the introduction of two new Interbook order types, Lit Sweep and Dark Sweep, offering Participants immediate access to both BXE and CXE order books via a single order. The new order types are available now for testing in the BXE and CXE Certification environments, and will be available for Production trading from Monday 12th November 2012.

The order types can be used by any Trading Participant of BATS Chi-X Europe, as long as the relevant clearing arrangements are in place. No additional paperwork is required. Sponsored Participants can also use these order types, subject to permission from their Sponsoring Participant.

How the order types work
* Participants submit an order, using the Lit Sweep or Dark Sweep order type, via a FIX or BOE port to either the BXE or CXE order book.

* Lit Sweep orders are sent to the lit book with the best price available. Orders work between order books and associated price levels. In the event that the same price is available on both order books, the order will be sent to the book of entry first.

* Dark Sweep orders are first sent to the dark book associated with the book of entry before moving on to the other dark book if there is a partial execution.

* Any residual volume posts back on the book of entry, or can be cancelled back to the Participant by use of the IOC flag.

* Participants can specify Lit and Dark Sweep orders on an order by order basis by using the following values in the RoutingInst field (FIX tag 9303):

Lit Sweep: 9303=W
Dark Sweep: 9303=U

* Lit and Dark Sweep order types may also be hardcoded for Participants upon request, at a FIX or BOE port level.

Testing
* The new order types are available for testing in the BATS Chi-X Europe Certification environments with immediate effect.

* Participants are required to pass a certification test for the new order types before enablement in Production. Please contact the Trade Desk to schedule your formal certification test.

BATS Chi-X Europe: Introduction of Market Data Fees Oct 1st 2012 - Update regarding Direct billing model

July 17, 2012 15:28:41

Dear BATS Chi-X Europe Participants,

As part of the rollout of new fees for BATS Chi-X Europe market data (Data) in October 2012, please be advised that participants must confirm to BATS Chi-X Europe whether they will be opting into the "Direct Model" for Display use of Data. The deadline for doing so is 3rd August 2012. The Direct Model is described in more detail in the Market Data Policy (effective 1st October 2012). In summary, the Direct Model permits participants to contract with and be invoiced directly by BATS Chi-X Europe, as well as taking advantage of tiered end user pricing for Display use of the Data.

The purpose of this request and the date for final submission is to gather the required information (pursuant to the provisions in the Market Data Policy (effective 1st October 2012)) with sufficient notice to enable BATS Chi-X Europe to liaise with third party data vendors to ensure Display fees are not duplicated unnecessarily.

Attached to this email is a declaration that participants should return to confirm their preference for the Direct Model and to indicate which data vendors they utilise.

Completed documents should be returned to [email protected] no later than 3rd August 2012.

All market data documentation is available at the link below:

http://www.batstrading.co.uk/market_data/products/

Any questions regarding this notice can be directed to the Market Data team, or to your BATS Chi-X Europe Account Manager.

BATS Chi-X Europe: Order Price Collar change for UK Market

July 12, 2012 10:23:24

Dear BATS Chi-X Europe Participants,

Order Price Collar change for the UK Market segment

All Orders submitted to the BATS Chi-X Europe MTF or Order Routing Facility are subject to an Order Price Collar based on a reference price. Where an aggressive Order is received that would breach the Order Price Collar, that Order will be rejected.

For a trial period and until further notice, BATS Chi-X Europe will be reducing the aggressive order price collar from 20% to 5% in the UK market segment. Aggressive price range checking will be taken from the Listing Market bid/offer spread (PBBO) when available. Where the PBBO is unavailable, for example where the Listing Market has a one-sided quote or during an outage, the Order Price Collar is 5% or more through the price of the last transaction on the Listing Market. During an auction phase on the Listing Market the indicative auction value will be used as the reference price (5% or more away) for price range checking.

This change will be made available in the Certification (UAT) environments from Tuesday 17th July 2012, then on the Production BXE books from Tuesday 24th July 2012, and the Production CXE books from Tuesday 31st July 2012.

This change to the UK market segment follows the successful introduction of the 5% Order Price Collar to the Italian Market segment.

For all other market segments the existing Order Price Collar will remain at 20%.

For more information on this please refer to the Order Price Collar in the Participant Manual: http://www.batstrading.co.uk/resources/participant_resources/BATS_Chi-X_Europe_Participant_Manual.pdf

REMINDER: BATS Chi-X Europe: Upcoming Changes to Trading Functionality & Behaviour

April 13, 2012 08:46:09

Dear BATS Chi-X Europe Participants,

As a reminder, the changes below will come into effect this Monday 16th April 2012 in Production:

Below is important information on the harmonisation of trading functionality and behaviour between BATS Europe and Chi-X Europe (together "BATS Chi-X Europe"), in preparation for the migration to an integrated technology platform on 30th April 2012.

Details of upcoming changes for either the BATS Europe (BXE) or Chi-X Europe (CXE) order books are outlined below.

Unless otherwise stated, these changes are available for testing with immediate effect in the Certification (UAT) environment, and from Monday 16th April 2012 in Production:

* Pegged Orders during Primary Exchange Suspensions (BXE only)

o BXE will not normally suspend trading in any instrument which is subject to any non-regulatory suspensions, such as a volatility halt on the Primary Exchange. However, certain order types, such as orders pegged to the market of listing, will not be available. During these suspensions, pegged orders will be impacted as follows: Any existing pegged orders will remain on the order book, new orders may be submitted but will immediately enter a held status, and participants will be able to cancel or amend their open orders. This order behaviour will impact both pegged orders in the Integrated Book, and Dark Book orders. As all orders in the Dark Book are pegged, these orders will always be impacted during non-regulatory suspensions.

* Visible Pegged Orders (BXE only)

o Visible Primary and Market pegged orders will now be supported on the BXE Integrated Order Book. DisplayIndicator (tag 9479)=X must be used to flag the orders as Visible.

* TradeLiquidityIndicator flag [tag 9730] (BXE only)

o A value of RT - "Removed Liquidity from the BATS Dark Pool by IOC order" will now be possible on executions received from BXE. For Binary Order Entry (BOE) sessions, a SubLiquidityIndicator field value of T will now be present. Please refer to the FIX and/or BOE specifications for further information.

* Unitised (On Demand) TCP Pitch (BXE and CXE)

o BATS Chi-X Europe will implement the following Unitised TCP Pitch feed scheme:

* UK & Ireland

* Euronext

* Germany

* Italy, Spain & Switzerland

* Nordics
This change has no impact on the full composite TCP Pitch feed.
These changes will be made available in the Certification (UAT) environments Wednesday 4th April, and in BXE Production from Monday 16th April 2012, and CXE Production upon migration to BATS technology on Monday 30th April 2012.

· Visible Pegged Orders (BXE only)

o Visible Primary and Market pegged orders will now be supported on the BXE Integrated Order Book.

· Unitised (On Demand) TCP Pitch (BXE and CXE)

o BATS Chi-X Europe will implement the following Unitised TCP Pitch feed scheme:

§ UK & Ireland

§ Euronext

§ Germany

§ Italy, Spain & Switzerland

§ Nordics
This change has no impact on the full composite TCP Pitch feed.
These changes will be made available in the Certification (UAT) environments Wednesday 4th April, and in BXE Production from Monday 16th April 2012, and CXE Production upon migration to BATS technology on Monday 30th April 2012.

March 27, 2012 11:11:17

Dear BATS Europe Participants,

The following notice provides important information on the harmonisation of the tick size tables traded on BATS Europe and Chi-X Europe (together the "BATS Chi-X Europe platform").

These changes will bring the tick tables for all instruments traded on BATS Chi-X Europe into line with the tick table of the listing market.

The details of the upcoming changes for BATS Europe (BXE) are outlined in the attached spreadsheet and include the introduction of new tick size tables.

These tick size changes will be made available in the Certification (UAT) environment from Monday 2nd April 2012 and in Production on Wednesday 4th April 2012.

REMINDER: BATS Europe matching unit distribution change for Austrian instruments

February 22, 2012 15:41:29

Dear BATS Chi-X Europe Participants,

BATS Europe periodically reviews the unit distribution of tradable markets to ensure market data is spread evenly.

BATS Europe will migrate all Austrian instruments from Unit 12 onto Unit 8. This change will be effective in BATS Europe Production from Monday 27th February 2012.

Specifically, this will impact Participants who:

o receive Primary and Secondary Multicast Gig and WAN-shaped Production feeds

o receive on-demand (unitised) TCP PITCH feeds. Austrian (WBAH) market data will be moved to the current Xetra (XETR) feed.

o use BATS Binary Order Entry (BOE). Austrian BOE messages will be created from matching unit 8.

There is no impact to Participants currently receiving the BATS Europe TCP PITCH market data feed.

For information on this new distribution please refer to the BATS Europe Multicast PITCH Specification.

This change has been available in the BATS Europe Certification environment since Monday 6th February, 2012.

Please contact the Trade Desk or your Account Manager if you have any questions.

All current and historical BATS Europe notices, including universe updates, are available online at www.batstrading.co.uk/alerts.

BATS Chi-X Integration: Post-trade Update

February 20, 2012 17:28:37

Dear Participants,

BATS Chi-X Europe would like to update Participants on the following Post-trade changes that will be taking place as a result of the upcoming platform migration.

Integration Overview

An overview of the post-trade changes is available on the following link and will be updated periodically. http://www.batstrading.co.uk/integration/post_trade/

UK and Irish Settlement netting

From the 30th April, BATS Chi-X Europe intends to offer Participants trading on both order books (BXE and CXE) the option to net their UK and Irish settlement obligations into one settlement instruction (per ISIN) at Euroclear UK and Ireland, or continue to keep their settlements segregated as is currently the case (subject to FSA, HMRC and IRC conditions being met).

In order to allow cross-order book netting, BATS Chi-X Europe will be contacting a number of Trading Participants who have UK SDRT Intermediary relief on one market but not the other, or who have relief on both markets but under different Crest codes. It is important that Trading Participants have consistent Intermediary relief; otherwise cross-order book netting will not be permitted. BATS Chi-X Europe is in discussion with the Irish Revenue Commission (IRC) and will advise Participants if any further action is required.

Trading Participants wishing to cross-order book net UK and Irish settlements should contact their Clearing Participant who will be advised by their Central Counterparty (CCP) of how to achieve this. Settlement netting in all other markets is unaffected as a result of the integration.

CCP Static data and Clearing Authority

Post the legal and technical migration (30th April 2012), Trading Participants who currently have access to a market segment (UK, France etc.) will have access to these market segments on both the BXE and CXE order books. To ensure this consistent approach, BATS Chi-X Europe are working with their CCPs to update the clearing authorities for Trading Participants and are taking the following approach:

Scenario

Trading Participant Status

Action

1

Trading Participant is currently a member of the BATS Europe and Chi-X Europe platforms and has identical access on both platforms.

No action required. CCP will apply existing clearing authority on both order books.

2

Trading Participant is currently a member of the BATS Europe and Chi-X Europe platforms but has different market segment access or different clearing arrangements across the two platforms.

Clearing members will be contacted by their CCP(s) to complete a clearing authority and SSIs to ensure consistent market access on both order books.

3

Trading Participant is a member of one platform but not the other.

Clearing members will be contacted by their CCP(s) to complete a clearing authority and SSIs to ensure consistent market access on both order books.

New clearing authorities will only come into force on the migration date, unless agreed otherwise with CCPs.

The updated Symbol Reference Data File will be available on our website at http://www.batstrading.co.uk/support/.
Please contact the Trade Desk or your Account Manager if you have any questions.

All current and historical BATS Europe notices, including universe updates, are available online at www.batstrading.co.uk/alerts.

BATS Europe matching unit distribution change for Austrian instruments

January 24, 2012 13:56:58

Dear BATS Europe Participants

BATS Europe periodically reviews the unit distribution of tradable markets to ensure BATS Europe market data is spread evenly.
To this end and as part of the planned Chi-X Europe migration announced recently, BATS Europe will migrate all Austrian instruments from Unit 12 onto Unit 8.

This change will be available in the BATS Europe Certification environment effective Monday 6th February, 2012.

Please contact the Trade Desk or your Account Manager if you have any questions.

All current and historical BATS Europe notices, including universe updates, are available online at www.batstrading.co.uk/alerts.

UPDATE: Full Four way Clearing Interoperability including EMCF goes live on BATS Europe effective 6th January 2012

January 04, 2012 09:01:02

Dear Participants

BATS Chi-X Europe is pleased to confirm that fully Interoperable Clearing including EMCF has now received all necessary regulatory approvals. As such, the service will go live on the BATS Europe market this Friday 6th January 2012.

Market Scope
* Four way Interoperable Clearing will be available for all markets traded on BATS Europe excluding Spain which will continue to be cleared at EMCF until further notice.

* Due to the on-going regulatory review of Exchange Traded Products (ETFs / ETCs) within clearing, BATS Europe has taken the decision to exclude all ETFs and ETCs from the scope of interoperability until the conclusion of these reviews. BATS Europe continues to trade ETF / ETC securities, however all executions will be routed to the existing Central Counterparty (CCP), EMCF, irrespective of the Participant's choice of CCP for the underlying market segment. Please note: ETF / ETCs are traded in various market segments and are not in a segregated segment.

Summary of Service
With four way Clearing Interoperability, Participants are able to choose to have one or more Central Counterparties (CCPs) clearing their business on the BATS Europe market. Participants are able to choose to use EMCF, EuroCCP, LCH.Clearnet and SIX x-Clear on a market by market basis. BATS Europe will enable clearing for Participants once required documentation is in place with the respective CCP(s). Participants will no longer be required to maintain a clearing relationship with EMCF for markets where they have chosen an alternative CCP.

How to setup a new CCP relationship
Trading Participants must have a clearing relationship with their chosen CCP(s), either as a Direct Clearing Participant (DCP) or through a General Clearing Participant (GCP).

* Trading Participants using a GCP should contact them to ensure the relevant CCP documentation is in place.

* DCPs should contact their CCP(s) to ensure the relevant documentation is in place.

Contact details for the four CCPs are listed below:
EMCF
EMCF Membership Team
[email protected]

EuroCCP
Account Administration [email protected]

LCH.Clearnet
LCH.Clearnet Membership Team
[email protected]

SIX x-clear
Customer Integration
[email protected]

Technical detail
* As an optional feature, BATS Europe can indicate in FIX tag 7772 or in a BOE field of the execution report which CCP has the trade. This tag is already available as an optional field on the FIX port, as indicated in the BATS Europe FIX spec. Participants requiring this should contact the BATS Europe Trade Desk to test.

Certification Testing
Four way Clearing Interoperability is already available for testing in the BATS Europe Certification environment.

Any Participants wishing to conduct end to end testing should contact the BATS Europe Trade Desk.
